Dana Tyler is an American journalist best known for being a correspondent and news anchor for the New York-based network, WCBS-TV. She gained enormous fame as the host of the 6 p.m. newscast and other weekend shows. Some of which include New York Gaze, Tunnel to Towers Run, and CBS 2 at the Met, among others. His outstanding performance and excellent contributions to the world of journalism have won him numerous awards and accolades.

Dana Tyler – Biography

The adept journalist was born as Dana Tyler on November 24, 1958 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, United States. She was born to middle-class African-American parents whose identity is not known. She is of American nationality and has African-American ancestry. Growing up, Dana spent her early years in the town of Worthington, Ohio, where she completed her basic education at Worthington High School.

She developed a passion for becoming a journalist when she was very young and this led her to enroll in Boston University where she earned a degree in Marketing and Broadcast Journalism. There, she worked with the school media and was able to cover several stories that were trending at the time.

Career

After graduating, Dana Tyler quickly launched her career as an intern at WBNS-TV based in Columbus, Ohio. There she served as a general assignment reporter and anchor for the network. Her stellar performance on her show called Heart of Ohio won her an Emmy Award for Outstanding Anchor in 1988. After two years, she landed her first gig as a weekend anchor and reporter at WCBS. Joining the New York-based network, Dana became one of the first African Americans to anchor a newscast in New York.

The brilliant journalist has continued to be active at WCBS until now; she has an outstanding resume and has received numerous awards and accolades for her commendable performances. Interestingly, Tyler’s top performance while covering the New York City Subway Firebombing in 1996 won him an Emmy Award. Dana Tyler followed that up with another award for her top-notch performance while reporting on the New York Blackout and the 2003 City Hall shooting.

Her other notable works include the Broadway cover of The Color Purple in 2006 for which she received an award from the New York Association of Black Journalists. The following year, she was also honored in McDonald’s Salute to Black Broadcast Legends. In 2010, she won two Emmy Awards; first for his Breaking News Story coverage of Flight 1549 which landed in the Hudson River and another for reporting Heather and Stacy’s story in the Health Special, Race for the Cure

In 2012, she co-hosted The Tunnel to Towers Memorial Run and her incredible performance won her a New York Emmy Award for Community Service. The highlight of her career came in 2014 when she received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the New York Association of Black Journalists.

Being one of the most prominent figures on WCBS-TV, Dana Tyler has also worked with other notable journalists. Among them, Brian Williams, John Johnson, Jim Rosenfield, Kristen Johnson, Chris Wragge, Jim Jensen and Roz Abrams, among others. She marked her career and her works speak for themselves. Dana currently serves as the anchor of WCBS 6 p.m. Newsscast and other weekend programs.
