Bartolo Colon Biography,

Bartolo Colon was born on May 24, 1973 to Miguel and Adriana Colon in Altamira, Dominican Republic. He spent his childhood with his parents in a house without running water, plumbing or electricity. Bartolo was very young as he started working at 9 years old alongside his father, helping him harvest coffee beans and fruit.

His father taught him how to play baseball, however, he had to play with tightly bound rags because his family was too poor to afford a ball. As a result, he worshiped his father. Even as a young boy, Bartolo dominated the game in neighborhood competitions. However, he first came to attention at the age of 16 when a Cleveland Indians bird dog saw him play in a youth game. You’d think that was the start of good things for young Bartolo but it wasn’t, he was left out of several events even though he was old enough for a contract.

He eventually managed to get his tries but had to wait another two years before being signed by the Indians in 1993 before playing his first Pro season in 1994.

1995 was a decisive year for Bartolo. His outstanding performances did not go unnoticed as he was twice awarded league pitcher of the year and Indian minor league player of the year. Since then, Bartolo has made history by writing his name in gold in the world of baseball. He played for several teams, including the Montreal Expos, Chicago White Sox, Anaheim Los Angeles Angels, Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, Oakland Athletics, New York Metz, Atlanta Braves, Minnesota Twins and Texas Rangers.
