The name Arnelle Simpson might not ring a bell for you until you realize that she was the little girl who died alongside her father, legendary former NFL player OJ Simpson, during his 1994 murder trial.
In case you don’t remember, on June 13, 1994 the bodies of OJ’s ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman were found outside of Brown’s condo in Brentwood, Los Angeles. The two bodies had been stabbed multiple times and OJ was identified by police as the prime suspect. His subsequent arrest and trial were must-sees in the United States, as media coverage surpassed coverage of the Oklahoma City bombing and the Bosnian War combined. It was further called the trial of the century.
Through it all, Simpson stood by her father to vigorously defend him at every opportunity and help him become a celebrity. Arnelle Simpson was born on December 4,1968 to Marguerite L. Whitley and OJ Simpson, who married just a year before her arrival in June 1967, when OJ was 19 years old. She has two younger brothers; Jason Simpson who was born in 1970 and Aaren Simpson who was born in 1977 but died just two years later in 1979 after drowning in the family swimming pool.
In March 1979, OJ and Marguerite divorced. Before the divorce, OJ met and began dating Nicole Brown in 1977. After the divorce, Arnelle lived with her mother while her father moved in with his new girlfriend. Not much was subsequently heard about the little girl until her father was in the news for killing Brown, whom he had married and divorced.
Arnelle Simpson was always present in courther father’s trials. Their mother, Marguerite, who had not been heard from since the divorce, was also present to support her children, if not their father. After OJ’s acquittal, Arnelle was not heard from again until nearly a decade later when her father got into trouble again.
