Alan Colmes was born as Alan Samuel Colmes into a Jewish family in Brooklyn, New York City in the United States on September 24, 1950. He was raised in Lynbrook, New York where he attended a local school. After graduating from high school, he enrolled in the School of Communications at Hofstra University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 1971.

Career

While in college, Colmes worked with the WRHU University Radio Station and that’s where it all started. After graduation, the talented star started acting and later, in 1979, he started his career in radio. Colmes started working for different radio stations in New York including WEVD, WMCA, WHN, WABC. In 1990, his radio shows became a national syndicate, and Colmes continued to gain popularity in the United States.

However, Alan Colmes got his breakthrough in 1996 when he was hired by Fox News. He became a co-host of the political program titled Hannity & Colmes with Sean Hannity. The show aired from 1996 to 2009. The two interviewed notable figures including Jesse Jackson, Bill Clinton and others. In 2003, Colmes began his self-hosted program called The Alan Colmes Show which aired on Fox Channel until 2017. He also appeared on other shows such as Fox News WatchRed Eye with Greg Gutfeld and Bill O’Reilly’s The O’Reilly Factor to name a few.

Additionally, during his final week on the Hannity & Colmes show , the TV star guest-starred on The Colbert Show as well as The Daily Show with Jon Stewart as a tribute to him.

Cause of death

According to reports, the liberal commentator died of lymphoma at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in Manhattan on February 23, 2017. His passing was reported by his heartbroken wife Jocelyn. The top-rated star seemed to have been battling the disease for a very long time and in January 2017 he announced he would be taking time off from his shows for health reasons he never disclosed.

The disease lymphoma is a type of cancer that starts from the lymphocytes which are the fighting cells of the body’s immune system. It causes abnormal growth in the lymph nodes, spleen, bone marrow, thymus, and other parts of the body. Alan Colmes has died aged 66, leaving behind his beautiful wife and no children.
