If you love heavy metal, it’s possible you’ve at least heard of Motionless in White (MIW), a hardcore metallic band from Scranton. You’ve probably also come across the band’s frontman, Chris Motionless. Interestingly, Chris began his professional music career the same year MIW was formed.
Wondering why the name “Motionless in White”? First off, Chris and his bandmates didn’t name their band Motionless in White from the start. The group did so only after being inspired by Motionless and White , a song by Orange County metalcore band Eighteen Visions. MIW also do horror, gothic and industrial metal and are popular for their songs Geist im Spiegel and Marionettes .

Who is Chris Motionless from Motionless in White?
Chris Motionless is an American metal musician most popular as the vocalist/guitarist for Motionless in White (MIW). He was born Christopher Thomas Cerulli on October 17, 1986 in Scranton, Pennsylvania, USA.
Chris Cerulli grew up in Scranton and didn’thave a very pleasant childhood. His parents’ relationship struggled and eventually led to their divorce when he was a child. However, Chris later developed a passion for music in his teenage years. His grandfather had previously encouraged him to play music and taught him to play the guitar, but Chris showed no interest at the time. Instead, he dabbled in video games, sports, and other outdoor pursuits. However, after the death of his grandfather at the age of 10, Cerulli gradually developed a love for art. and so, against all odds, his newfound love of singing and playing guitar kept him going.

Post talent show Chris Cerulli co-founded Motionless in White in 2005. He was 18 at the time and a high school student. Chris formed the band alongside Kyle White, who played bass, Angelo Parente, who played drums, and Frank Polumbo, who played guitar, while he did lead vocals and guitar himself. The same year they got together, the quartet released their first independent (self-recorded/distributed) project, a demo titled Bewegungslos in Weiß .
After the release of the demo of the same name, three other members joined the band – Josh Balz as keyboardist and Michael Costanza and Thomas Bell as guitarists. Chris then dropped the guitar and began doing lead vocals only. Shortly thereafter, while performing at a local nightclub, Masquerade Recordings CEO Zack Neil took note of the band and signed them to his label. After signing, they released their first major label project, an extended play titled The Horror in 2007.
The next year, 2008, Motionless in White presented their debut album entitled Als Liebe auf Destruction , with the lead single “Ghost in the Mirror”. The band later signed to Fearless Records and released their debut studio album thereafter. Creatures Other albums followed in subsequent years including Notorious (2012), Reincarnate (2014), Night Shift (2017) and Disguise (2019). They also embarked on numerous tours that gained wide notoriety in the United States and around the world.
Over the years, after several record label changes and several line-up changes took place, MIW became a five-piece band consisting of Chris Motionless on vocals, Ryan Sitkowski on lead guitarist, Ricky Olson on rhythm guitarist, Justin Morrow on bassist and Vinny Mauro on drummer with Chris being the sole founding member be that’s still in the band.
