Why I ‘Stole’ My Stage Name From A Friend – Blaqbonez

Nigerian rapper, Emeka Akumefule, popularly known as Blaqbonez, has revealed that his stage name originally belonged to a friend who loved rap.

Naija News reports that Blaqbonez made this known in a recent interview on the Tea With Tay podcast, while explaining the story behind the name.

Blaqbonez said he approached his friend while they were still in school and asked to use the name because he liked it.

According to him, his friend was not actively using the name or pursuing a music career at the time.

He said, “I stole it, you know, it was my friend’s name. There was Blaqbonez and he wasn’t using it for anything, the guy, he liked rap, so he gave himself a rap name. He wasn’t even rapping, he wasn’t doing anything with the name. So, one day I just said, bro, you know, dey use this name. I like am, and that’s how I started bearing Blaqbonez. I swear. He’s not using it for anything. He’s not using it.” 

In other news, Blaqbonez has said his long-time feud with his colleague, Odumodublvck, is linked to an intimate relationship with a girl the singer was also dating.

Recall that Odumodublvck had always insisted that his rift with Blaqbonez is beyond music.

Responding to Blaqbonez’s diss song in June 2025, Odumodublvck, in a post via 𝕏, said, “You want to make it about studio. Na lie. We go meet again for the street. You know the level. This is not rap beef. Na me and you for this world.”

In an interview with media personality, Rufai Oseni, Blaqbonez said he was unaware that Odumodublvck was romantically involved with the girl.
