Two Security Operatives Killed In Fresh Plateau Attack

At least two security operatives have been killed in a fresh attack on communities in Jol District, Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Several other people were also reportedly injured during the attack, while the attackers were said to have escaped with the firearms belonging to the slain security personnel.

The incident, Naija News understands, occurred on Sunday afternoon when suspected armed men stormed Tanjol and Tarai communities and opened fire on residents.

Sources from the community, according to Daily Trust, revealed that the attackers arrived in the area at about 2:30pm, forcing security personnel to respond to the situation.

The response, however, reportedly led to a fierce gun battle between the security operatives and the attackers.

Sources in the council area said at least two security operatives were killed during the confrontation.

The attackers were also said to have taken away the firearms of the slain personnel before fleeing the area.

Some residents reportedly sustained injuries during the attack, while one person was said to be missing.

The latest incident has heightened fears among residents of Jol and surrounding communities, which have continued to face security challenges.

A resident, Jerry Chollom, who confirmed the attack, said the development had created panic among residents.

Chollom expressed concern over the safety of lives and property in the area and called on security agencies to come to their rescue.

He urged the authorities to deploy more personnel and take proactive measures to prevent further attacks.

The attack comes after a similar incident in which two security personnel were reportedly killed and their firearms seized by an unknown armed group.

However, no official statement has been issued by the police command in response to the development as of the time of filing this report.
