The African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has dismissed the chances of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, as the solution to Nigeria’s problems.
Speaking on Monday at the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) conference in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, where he also challenged former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi over their records in government, Sowore submitted that Obi failed during his time as the Governor of Anambra State.
Speaking against the backdrop of politicians who have been in government in the past and failed to make a reasonable impact, Sowore said even Peter Obi, as governor, didn’t perform well.
He said Obi failed to adequately support education and other public services during his tenure.
The publisher said politicians seeking to lead Nigeria should account for their past performance rather than present themselves as solutions to problems they allegedly failed to address while in office.
Naija News reports that he specifically questioned Obi’s record as governor of Anambra State, citing prolonged industrial actions involving lecturers and doctors.
“We can not ignore those of you who have governed before, who refused to subsidise your people. Peter Obi did not subsidize education in his state. Lecturers and Doctors went on strike for 13 months,” Sowore submitted.
He argued that some Nigerians may like Obi’s current personality, but his historical records as the Governor of Anambra State does not show that he has the solution to Nigeria’s problems.
“You may like him as a person, but he did not perform as a Governor. That is the truth,” he added.
