Samuel Chukwueze says he is ready to continue playing as a right wing-back for AC Milan after starring in their 2-1 Serie A opening-day win over Torino.

The Nigeria international claimed the Man of the Match award after setting up Adrien Rabiot for Milan’s second goal at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino on Sunday night.

Chukwueze, who returned to Milan after spending last season on loan at Premier League club Fulham, created four chances, more than any other player in the game, and repeatedly caused problems for Torino down the right flank.

The winger adapted well to his unfamiliar role, using his pace and energy to support attacks while carrying out his defensive duties.

Asked about playing as a wing-back, Chukwueze insisted he was ready to play wherever head coach Ruben Amorim needed him.

“I’m ready, it’s my job, I’ll give it my all,” Chukwueze told DAZN.

The 27-year-old also expressed his delight after making a strong start to life back at the San Siro.

“I’m happy to be back like this, it gives me confidence,” he added.

“I wanted to start the season like this, I’m happy.

“But now that’s already in the past, let’s focus on the next one.”

Chukwueze’s display provided an early boost for Amorim, who has begun to reshape Milan around his preferred 3-4-2-1 formation after taking charge of the club this summer.

The Rossoneri will aim to build on their winning start when they welcome Serie A newcomers Venezia to San Siro in their next league fixture.

The game could see Chukwueze come up against fellow Nigeria international Akor Adams, who made his Serie A debut in Venezia’s 2-0 home defeat to Lecce. The former Sevilla forward played the entire 90 minutes in the loss.
