‘You Told Me You’d Die’ – Baba Suwe’s Daughter

Halimat Omidina, daughter of the late Yoruba actor, Babatunde Omidina, popularly known as Baba Suwe, has opened up about the final moments she spent with her father before his death.

Naija News reports that the model and content creator shared the emotional memories on Saturday as she marked what would have been the actor’s 68th birthday.

Baba Suwe died on November 22, 2021, aged 63. He would have clocked 68 on August 22, 2026.

In a series of posts on her 𝕏 handle, @superstarrlimaa, Halimat reflected on the pain of celebrating her father’s birthday without him.

Describing the occasion as different from the celebrations they once had, she wrote, “Happy posthumous birthday, Daddy. Today feels so different, no crowd, no jollof rice, no you in your new shirt.”

The actor’s daughter also expressed regret that she did not have more time to create memories with him. She said she wished she had held him more tightly when he spoke about his impending death.

She wrote, “I wish I made more memories with you and hugged you tighter when you told me you’d die. May Allah have mercy on you and grant you Jannatul Firdaus.”

Halimat subsequently revealed that Baba Suwe had actually told her he would die two days before his death. However, she said she did not take the statement seriously because she assumed the veteran actor was joking.

She recalled, “This could’ve been my mood today. Someone asked if Daddy ever told me he was going to die. Yes, he did. Two days before, he told me, but I laughed it off. I thought he was joking.”

According to her, the following day, she received a call directing her to return home because her father’s condition had deteriorated. By the time she arrived, the actor could no longer speak.

She said, “The next day, I got a call to come home. He couldn’t talk anymore, and an hour later, he passed.”
