APC Chieftain, Ojudu Faults Tinubu Campaign Council List

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Babafemi Ojudu, has criticised the composition of the party’s 108-member Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 election.

The APC unveiled the campaign council on Saturday as the party began preparations for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.

However, the council’s composition has sparked reactions, with questions raised over the inclusion of some individuals.

Reacting to the list in a statement shared on his Facebook page on Sunday, Ojudu expressed reservations over the backgrounds of some of those appointed to the council.

The APC chieftain noted that the list contained individuals with widely different public records, including some he described as former “sinners.”

He wrote that the council comprised “saints and former sinners, the tried and the tired, reformers and those still awaiting reform.”

According to him, while some names on the list could boost public confidence, others could raise concerns among Nigerians.

He stated, “There are people whose names inspire confidence and others whose names inspire a quick check on one’s wallet.”

Ojudu argued that the Tinubu campaign should be mindful of the public perception that could arise from its choice of campaigners.

He said a campaign seeking the trust of Nigerians should not give the impression that it was accommodating controversial figures merely because of their political influence or capacity to mobilise supporters.

“A campaign seeking the confidence of Nigerians should not appear to be offering political sanctuary to every controversial figure who can command a convoy, finance a rally or mobilise a forest,” Ojudu said.
