Nathan Tella Scores First Goal Of Season As Leverkusen Thrash Wiesbaden

Super Eagles winger, Nathan Tella, opened his goal account for the season as Bayer Leverkusen cruised to a 4-0 win over Wehen Wiesbaden in the DFB-Pokal earlier today, August 22.

Nathan Tella started on the bench but made an immediate impact after replacing Fernandez in the 65th minute. The Nigerian international found the net four minutes later to score Leverkusen’s third goal at the BRITA-Arena.

The strike marked Tella’s first goal of the new campaign and could provide a timely boost as the former Southampton winger looks to earn a regular place in Leverkusen’s plans.

Patrik Schick gave the visitors the lead in the 43rd minute before Lucas Vázquez doubled their advantage shortly after the restart.

Tella then made his mark before Christian Kofane wrapped up the emphatic win with a simple tap-in in the 79th minute, sealing Leverkusen’s passage to the next round of the DFB-Pokal.

Wehen Wiesbaden struggled to threaten Leverkusen despite playing at home. The visitors dominated possession with 71 per cent, while the hosts managed just 29 per cent.

Meanwhile, Tella’s Nigerian compatriot Victor Boniface remained on the bench throughout the match. Naija News reports that the striker recently returned to Leverkusen after spending last season on loan at Werder Bremen.
