Memphis Depay Defends Music Video Showing Corinthians Headquarters In Flames

Netherlands international, Memphis Depay, has defended his controversial new music video showing Corinthians’ headquarters in flames, insisting that it is “just art”.

Memphis Depay released the video for his track Don’t Panic just 24 hours after helping Corinthians reach the Copa Libertadores quarter-finals with an assist against Rosario Central.

The footage shows the 32-year-old watching the club’s administrative headquarters at Parque São Jorge in flames and appears to reference his recent disagreements with the São Paulo side.

The former Manchester United forward accused Corinthians of “unacceptable behaviour” on 11 August after the club withdrew a previously agreed contract extension.

Naija News reports that the dispute appeared to end a week later when Corinthians president Osmar Stabile announced that Depay had accepted a significant reduction in his financial demands to sign a new contract until 2028.

According to ESPN Brasil, Depay agreed to waive about R$21 million from the R$75 million owed to him under the new two-year agreement, which is worth R$135 million in total. Corinthians will reportedly pay the remaining R$54 million in four instalments, starting in January 2027.

However, the video has triggered fresh controversy as Corinthians supporters prepare to protest against the club’s ownership over growing financial and governance concerns. Depay moved to calm tensions by saying the video was filmed months ago.

“I hope it’s a peaceful protest where people can express what they think calmly. About my music, I insist it’s just art,” Depay wrote on social media.

The Netherlands’ all-time leading scorer also addressed the scenes showing the club’s headquarters in flames, stressing that he was “fully against any type of violence of all kinds”.

Depay has scored 20 goals in 80 appearances for Corinthians since joining the club in 2024. He helped them win the Copa do Brasil in 2025 and the Supercopa do Brasil this year, while Corinthians currently sit ninth in Brazil’s Serie A.

The forward has also remained in the spotlight at the international level after failing to score in three appearances as the Netherlands exited the 2026 World Cup in the last 32.
