Joao Pedro Backs Chelsea For More Success After Signing New Contract Until 2034

Chelsea striker, Joao Pedro, says he believes the club can achieve major success after signing a new long-term contract that commits him to Stamford Bridge until 2034.

Naija News reports that the 24-year-old Brazil international joined Chelsea from Brighton last summer in a deal worth an initial £55m, with a further £5m in add-ons. Joao Pedro made an immediate impact, scoring 20 goals in all competitions in his first season and playing a key role in the side’s Club World Cup triumph.

“I am very happy to sign a new contract with Chelsea,” Joao Pedro said.

“I always dreamed of playing for a big club, and it means a lot to me to give my long-term commitment to this club. Chelsea has a long tradition of winning, and it has big ambitions for the future.

“Everyone is very excited for this season. We know we can achieve a lot of things; we have a great team, we have a coach who wants to win and has won already.”

Pedro’s new agreement rewards his impressive debut campaign and also protects Chelsea’s investment in the striker amid interest from Barcelona.

Chelsea announced the deal as running until 2034, although it is understood to run until 2032 with the club holding an option for a further two years. His previous contract also included an extension clause, meaning Chelsea improved his terms rather than simply extending his stay.

The Blues operate a strict wage structure but reward players who perform well with improved contracts. Cole Palmer and Nicolas Jackson have previously benefited from the same approach after strong performances.

Pedro became the first Chelsea striker since Diego Costa to score 20 goals in a season without taking penalties. He also scored three times during Chelsea’s Club World Cup-winning campaign and has hit eight goals in seven pre-season matches.

His impressive form has earned him the club’s number nine shirt, with Liam Delap giving up the jersey. Pedro is expected to lead Chelsea’s attack when they begin their Premier League campaign away to Fulham on Monday.

New signings Danny Welbeck and Emmanuel Emegha will provide competition and cover in attack, while Delap could leave Chelsea for around £50m amid interest from Nottingham Forest and Leeds United.

Chelsea also plan to offer new contracts to other key players after the transfer window closes, with Levi Colwill and Estevao Willian among those expected to be considered.
