It Was A Sham – Kwara Senator Explains Why He Dumped APC For PDP

Senator representing Kwara Central Senatorial District, Saliu Mustapha, has explained his decision to leave the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Naija News reports that the lawmaker said the move stemmed from concerns about how the ruling party was being managed in Kwara State.

Mustapha, who became the PDP candidate for Kwara Central through a substitution process, said his defection was not aimed at distancing himself from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The senator said his decision followed growing dissatisfaction among members of different political groups in Kwara who, according to him, felt excluded from the affairs of the APC under Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq.

He explained in an interview on Channels TV that the move to the PDP was part of a wider political arrangement involving the Otoge Progressives, the G15 and the Elder Caucus.

According to him, the groups agreed to work together and selected the PDP as the platform for their political plans ahead of the 2027 elections.

He said: “I have not dumped President Tinubu. We are all supporting President Tinubu. We have all felt alienated from the way and manner Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq is running the APC in Kwara. If there had been proper management and proper sense of belonging or consultation, we wouldn’t have gotten to this level.

“You announced that the primaries will start after the Jumu’ah prayers, and the results were announced by 4pm. When would the agents have arrived for them to do the coalition? It was a sham. This is not a Saliu Mustapha decision.

“The entire group, the Otoge Progressives, had an agreement, a meeting and sharing formula with the PDP. I can assure you that in this election we are going for, we would have defeated Abdulrahman Abdurazaq by 12 o’clock.”
