Court Grants Blessing CEO Bail, Orders Remand
Justice D.I. Dipeolu of the Federal High Court in Lagos on Tuesday ordered the remand of popular social media personality, Blessing Nkiruka Okoro, popularly known as Blessing CEO, at a correctional facility pending the fulfilment of her bail conditions.
Naija News reports that the social media influencer was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on charges bordering on obtaining money by false pretence and alleged conversion of funds.
She pleaded not guilty to all the charges preferred against her.
During the proceedings, Blessing CEO’s counsel, Nneka Nkama, appealed to the court to allow her client remain in the custody of the EFCC pending the perfection of her bail conditions.
However, counsel for the anti-graft agency, Suleiman Suleiman, opposed the request, informing the court that the commission’s detention facility was already filled up and could no longer accommodate the defendant.
Following the submissions of both parties, Justice Dipeolu directed that the defendant be remanded at a correctional centre until she meets the conditions attached to her bail.
The matter was subsequently adjourned until June 22, 2026, for the continuation of trial.
According to the EFCC, the defendant allegedly obtained ₦36 million from a complainant, Mrs Ifeyinwa Nonye Okoye, between July 14 and July 17, 2024.
The commission alleged that Blessing CEO collected the money under the pretext that she had authority to lease a six-bedroom detached duplex located on Tunbosun Osobu Street in the Lekki area of Lagos State.
The anti-graft agency further claimed that after making the payment, the complainant commenced renovation works on the property.
However, the actual owner of the house allegedly surfaced and subsequently ejected the complainant from the premises.
The EFCC accused the defendant of unlawfully converting the ₦36 million to her personal use and charged her with stealing and obtaining money by false pretence.
The commission told the court that the alleged offences contravened relevant provisions of the law and urged the court to proceed with the trial.
Blessing CEO denied all the allegations when the charges were read to her, paving the way for the commencement of legal proceedings in the case.
