If I Need Money, I’ll Call Tinubu – Babachir Lawal Denies Collecting Cash From Hayatu-Deen

Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, has dismissed claims that he collected money from African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential aspirant, Mohammed Hayatu-Deen.

Naija News reports that Lawal made the clarification during an appearance on Channels TV while reacting to allegations from supporters of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar that he was financially influenced by Hayatu-Deen.

According to him, the accusation has no basis, insisting that he did not receive any money from the ADC aspirant.

He maintained that if he was ever in need of financial assistance, he could easily reach out to President Bola Tinubu rather than seek support elsewhere.

The former SGF also questioned the basis of the allegation, asking for proof that any money exchange ever took place between him and Hayatu-Deen. He said no evidence had been presented to support the claim.

Lawal stated that his support for Hayatu-Deen was not connected to money but to what he described as the aspirant’s ability and capacity to lead. He said Hayatu-Deen offered competence and experience, which informed his position.

He said: “If I need money now, I’ll call President Tinubu, and I’ll get it before I get home.

“Hayatu-Deen has no money to give. Tell me who was there when he gave me the money. Maybe he’s yet to deliver it. I will go and collect it. Let me tell you, it’s not about money. Hayatu-Deen was a man who was offering his service and competence. Hayatu-Deen is more competent than Atiku. They can’t even be in the same boat.”
