Anthony Joshua Open To Moses Itauma Fight After Fury Clash
British-Nigerian heavyweight star Anthony Joshua has revealed he would have no hesitation stepping into the ring with rising prospect Moses Itauma, provided he successfully comes through his next two scheduled fights.
The former two-time world heavyweight champion made the admission during an interview with Fight Hub TV when asked whether he would consider facing the unbeaten 21-year-old, who is increasingly being tipped as the future of the heavyweight division.
“Let me get these two out of the way, and 100% I would fight Itauma. Yeah, man. Why not, bro? Let’s go. So many great opportunities are still presenting themselves,” Anthony Joshua said.
Joshua is set to face Albanian heavyweight Kristian Prenga in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on July 25. A blockbuster all-British showdown against Tyson Fury is expected to follow in November, a bout that has long been one of the most anticipated fights in boxing.
Should Joshua emerge victorious from both encounters, attention could quickly shift towards a potential clash with Itauma in the first half of 2027.
Itauma has rapidly established himself as one of boxing’s brightest heavyweight prospects, compiling a perfect 14-0 professional record. However, despite his explosive rise, questions remain over how he would cope in a prolonged bout, with none of his fights having gone beyond the 18-minute mark.
The young British-Nigerian is expected to face his toughest challenge yet later this summer when he takes on Croatian contender Filip Hrgovic. The fight, which promoter Frank Warren is expected to confirm in the coming days, is likely to take place on either August 22 or August 29.
A victory over Hrgovic would significantly strengthen Itauma’s credentials and could move him within touching distance of a world title opportunity. Frank Sanchez and Murat Gassiev have both been mentioned as possible opponents should a vacant championship become available.
