Nothing But Political 419 – Keyamo Knocks NDC For Zoning Presidential Ticket To South

Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has faulted the decision of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) to zone its 2027 presidential ticket to the South.

Naija News reports that Keyamo described the move as a political strategy meant to mislead Nigerians ahead of the next election.

Speaking during an interview with Vanguard on Sunday, the minister said the arrangement lacked seriousness and could not be trusted by voters.

According to him, the decision raised many questions about whether the party would truly keep to the agreement if political interests later changed.

Keyamo argued that the party’s position could easily be altered by the same leaders who approved it. He said there was nothing stopping the party from changing direction in the future if circumstances became different.

The minister also referred to the possibility of former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, changing political parties or influencing the coalition to reverse the zoning arrangement if he eventually emerged as a powerful figure within the group.

According to Keyamo, such possibilities show that the resolution cannot serve as a reliable promise to Nigerians ahead of the 2027 general election. He maintained that party agreements of that nature are not permanent and can be changed whenever political leaders decide to do so.

The decision of NDC is an insult on the sensibilities of Nigerians; it is nothing but political 419. So, what happens if Peter Obi changes party, assuming he wins, or as leader of the NDC he gets the NEC of the party to reverse the decision if in the unlikely event he wins? This is just a joke taken too far,” the minister said.
