Ademola Lookman Hails Atletico’s Historic Champions League Win At Barcelona

Nigeria forward Ademola Lookman has praised Atletico Madrid after their 2-0 win over Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals on Wednesday night.

The Spanish side secured a rare triumph at the Spotify Camp Nou, handing coach Diego Simeone his first win at the ground since taking charge. Barcelona’s task became harder before the break when Pau Cubarsí was sent off, leaving the hosts with ten men.

Goals from Julián Alvarez and substitute Alexander Sørloth sealed the result for Atletico, with Lookman playing an hour before making way in the second half.

Speaking to TNT Sports, the Super Eagles star said the performance underlined the unity within the squad.

“It was a good result, the performance of the team, especially not to concede here.
“It shows the work everyone’s been doing and the togetherness,” he said.

Lookman highlighted the importance of capitalising on Barcelona’s red card and the timing of Atletico’s goals.

“You know especially scoring after they had a man sent off, that was key as well. A brilliant free-kick from Julián (Alvarez) and also the timing of Alex’s (Alexander Sørloth) goal in the second half were also good,” he said.

“They are a top team, of course, in the situations they create. Difficult moments, but we persevered together.

“It’s going to be a massive challenge, a significant game. We understand that. Calm heads, for sure. We’ll approach each game as it comes.

“It has been nice, it has been great actually, long may it continue.”
