Fenerbahce Confirm Signing Of N’Golo Kanté After Transfer Twist

Fenerbahce have officially completed the signing of French midfielder N’Golo Kante from Saudi Pro League side Al Ittihad, bringing an end to days of uncertainty surrounding the move.

The deal appeared to have collapsed on Tuesday after Fenerbahce accused Al Ittihad of failing to submit the required paperwork in time.

The Turkish club released a statement at the time suggesting the transfer, which also involves Morocco striker Youssef En Nesyri moving in the opposite direction, had stalled due to administrative issues.

By Wednesday, however, Fenerbahce confirmed the situation had been resolved, announcing Kante’s arrival and marking the midfielder’s return to European football after two and a half years in Saudi Arabia.

Kante, 34, brings a wealth of experience and a decorated career to Istanbul. He joined Al Ittihad from Chelsea in 2023, having established himself as one of the most reliable and influential midfielders of his generation.

During his time at Stamford Bridge, he won the Champions League, Premier League, Europa League and FA Cup, earning widespread praise for his tireless work rate and tactical intelligence.

Before his Chelsea spell, Kante rose to prominence at Leicester City, where he played a pivotal role in the club’s historic Premier League title win in 2016. His performances that season helped transform him into a global star and paved the way for his move to London.

Meanwhile, En Nesyri’s departure forms part of Al Ittihad’s squad reshuffle following the exit of former Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema, who recently joined Saudi Pro League rivals Al Hilal.
