APGA Releases Primary Election Schedule For Anambra LG Polls

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has released its provisional timetable for the conduct of its primary elections ahead of the 2026 local government polls in Anambra State.

The party said the schedule was approved in line with the provisions of its constitution and the electoral calendar issued by the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission.

Naija News reports that in a statement issued on Thursday in Awka, the National Publicity Secretary of APGA, Mazi Ejimofor Opara, disclosed that the sale and submission of Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms would commence on January 27.

According to the statement, the exercise will run until February 6 at the party’s Awka Regional Secretariat.

Opara said the screening of chairmanship and councillorship aspirants would take place between February 7 and February 11.

He noted that the screening exercise would be conducted across the state’s 21 local government areas and 326 wards.

The statement further revealed that appeals arising from the screening process would be addressed on February 13.

It added that ward congresses for the election of councillorship candidates and ad-hoc delegates have been scheduled for February 14.

According to APGA, the chairmanship primary election will hold on February 15 in Awka.

“The chairmanship primary election will hold on February 15 while appeals arising from the primaries will be handled on February 16, all in Awka,” the statement said.

The party also announced the cost of nomination forms for aspirants.

Chairmanship aspirants are to pay ₦6 million, while councillorship aspirants will pay ₦600,000.

APGA said female aspirants and persons with disabilities would enjoy a 50 per cent reduction in the cost of forms.

The party stressed that all payments made for the purchase of forms are non-refundable. It also noted that the timetable remains provisional and may be adjusted where necessary.

APGA called on all prospective candidates to strictly adhere to the party’s guidelines and comply with relevant electoral regulations throughout the process.
