Champions League: Pep Guardiola Reveals Why Manchester City Lost To Bodø/Glimt

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola conceded his side were outmatched on the counter-attack after a damaging 3-1 defeat to Bodø/Glimt in Norway on Tuesday night.

During the game, Manchester City suffered an early setback as Kasper Høgh struck twice inside the opening half hour, both goals coming from sharp transitions that caught the visitors cold.

The hosts kept their foot on the gas after the break and were rewarded when Jens Petter Hauge added a third, leaving Guardiola’s side with a mountain to climb.

There was brief hope when Rayan Cherki pulled one back, but City’s chances of a late rally evaporated when Rodri collected a second booking and was sent off. The dismissal halted any momentum City had managed to build and allowed Bodø/Glimt to see the game out with confidence.

Speaking afterwards, Guardiola struck a reflective tone as he assessed a night that deepened concerns over his team’s recent form across competitions.

“We have to come back, the results since 2025 are not good, in terms of the Premier League and now today,” he said. “But we go forward, Wolves and then Galatasaray. We have the feeling everything is going wrong, the details, but we have to try and change that.

“I don’t have any doubts in this competition, nothing is taken for granted, that is for sure.

“[Manchester] United beat us and were better. today they had momentum. But the team was there and we created, on the transition they are really good.”

The defeat leaves City in a precarious position in their UEFA Champions League group as they brace up for Galatasaray test on January 28.
