Zamfara Police Rescue 25 From Bandit Attack In Damba

The Zamfara Police Command has rescued 25 people, including ten women and fifteen children, after they were abducted by armed bandits in Kuraje village, Damba, Gusau Local Government Area, on Friday night.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yazid Abubakar, said the attack involved a large group of heavily armed bandits who opened fire while targeting the village.

“On 21st November 2025 at about 21:45 hours, a group of armed bandits in large numbers, wielding dangerous weapons and firing sporadically, attacked Kuraje village in the Damba area of Gusau LGA. During the attack, the assailants abducted ten (10) women along with fifteen (15) of their children, all residents of the community,” he explained.

Abubakar added that police units acted quickly. “Upon receiving the distress report, joint Police patrol teams from Damba Division and the Department of Operations, Gusau, working in collaboration with the Community Protection Guards (CPG), swiftly mobilised to the scene. The team confirmed the incident, pursued the fleeing bandits, and engaged them in a coordinated and strategic operation.

“Thanks to the professionalism, gallantry, and swift response of the operatives, all twenty-five (25) abducted victims were successfully rescued unhurt.”

The rescued women and children were immediately moved to Sabongari Damba for safety and proper profiling, and they have now been reunited with their families.

Zamfara’s Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Balarabe Maikaba, commended the officers’ bravery and reassured the public that the command remains committed to protecting lives and property throughout the state.

The incident adds to a worrying string of kidnappings across Nigeria in recent days. Notable attacks include the abduction of 25 schoolgirls from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga, Kebbi State, on 17 November; the killing of at least five worshippers during an attack on Christ Apostolic Church, Eruku, Kwara State, on 18 November; and the abduction of 303 pupils and 12 teachers from St. Mary’s Catholic School, Papiri, Niger State, on 21 November.
