Osun Govt Denies APC’s ₦1 Trillion Allocation Claim, Calls It Fake News
The Osun State Government has dismissed as false a claim by the All Progressives Congress (APC) that Governor Ademola Adeleke received and squandered ₦1 trillion in state allocations.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the governor’s spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, described the allegation as “a devilish fabrication, mischievous propaganda and a failed attempt to rubbish a brilliant performance of the current administration as attested to by local and international stakeholders.”
Rasheed said the opposition party was only spreading falsehoods because it was “set for another defeat in 2026.” He stressed that Governor Adeleke had not received anything close to ₦1 trillion since 2022, adding that the administration had “managed state resources with discipline and clear focus on the real needs of the people.”
He listed several projects as proof of the governor’s performance. “Only an anti-people party will claim not to see the almost 322 kilometers of roads across the state, the 200 health centre renovations, the rehabilitation of more than 100 schools, the ongoing dualisation across several towns, the ongoing upgrading and rehabilitation of several water works, the multibillion naira local and grassroots development projects, the flyover bridges, the new tractors, the ongoing renovation and upgrading of Osogbo Stadium to a five-star standard among others,” he said.
Rasheed also pointed out that Adeleke had settled half-salary arrears owed by the previous APC administration and made regular pension payments, noting that “the enrolment of over 30,000 pensioners in the state health insurance scheme is an unprecedented policy which even the Federal Government has now adopted.”
He stated that the governor had “reduced the humongous Osun debt stock by 40 percent according to the Federal Debt Management Office,” adding that Adeleke “has not borrowed a kobo from 2022 to date” and “does not collect security votes.”
Rasheed accused the APC of hypocrisy over local government finances, saying the state government had been carrying the financial burden since the party “illegally seized” council funds. “Thousands of families working across sectors at the local government levels do not go hungry as intended by those who masterminded the illegal seizure,” he said.
The spokesperson highlighted other achievements, including Osun’s improved NECO ranking from 33rd to 7th position and a reduction in the state’s infrastructure deficit by 40 percent since 2022. He added that Osun was recently rated the best in the South West for access to primary healthcare.
“The Nigerian Union of Teachers has repeatedly applauded Governor Adeleke for his passionate attention to teachers’ welfare, training and upkeep,” Rasheed said, adding that pensioners, workers, farmers and traders “are daily expressing satisfaction with the direction of the government.”
He urged the opposition to stop its “habitual misinformation” and allow the people of Osun to enjoy what he called “the most impactful and people-centered governance in the state’s history.”
