William Saliba Commits Future to Arsenal With New Long-Term Deal

Premier League side, Arsenal have secured a major boost as French centre-back William Saliba has agreed a fresh contract with the club.

William Saliba, 24, is expected to officially sign the deal in the coming days, tying him down beyond 2027, according to transfer expert, David Ornstein.

The decision ends months of speculation over his future, with Real Madrid among the clubs showing interest.

Arsenal opened talks earlier this year, determined to keep hold of one of their most important players. Saliba himself made his intentions clear in March, saying: “Yes, hopefully, of course, there is nothing now, but there is a good conversation with my agent and the club. Let’s see.”

Since breaking into Mikel Arteta’s side, Saliba has become a cornerstone of Arsenal’s defence. He played 51 matches last season as the Gunners finished second in the Premier League for a third straight year and reached the Champions League semi-final. His consistency has been key to Arsenal boasting the league’s best defensive record over the last two campaigns.

Signed from Saint-Etienne in 2019, Saliba initially spent time back in France on loan with Nice and Marseille before making his breakthrough in London. Now, his mix of strength, pace and calmness on the ball has made him indispensable. Arsenal’s collapse in the 2022–2023 title race, which came immediately after his injury, underlined just how crucial he is.

The new contract also keeps Arsenal’s defensive spine intact, with Gabriel signing new terms earlier in the summer. Forward Leandro Trossard and youngsters Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly have also committed their futures, giving Arteta stability across the squad.

Saliba’s extension is seen as one of the club’s biggest achievements off the pitch this year. At 24, he is still several years away from his peak, and the club believe he can anchor their defence for the long term.

For Arsenal fans, the deal will feel like more than just a renewal. It is a statement that one of Europe’s most sought-after defenders is staying put at the Emirates to chase trophies.
