Troops reportedly neutralized at least fifteen Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists in recent clearance operations in Borno State.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the Chief Military Information Officer at HQ MNJTF in N’djamena, Chad, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, reported that troops carried out the operation from the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) operating in Sector 3, Mongunu.

According to him, the troops, in collaboration with a hybrid force and supported by air components, intercepted and neutralized a group of wounded ISWAP terrorists attempting to flee while also seizing an additional cache of weapons.

The statement indicated that the troops effectively targeted and intercepted several armed and injured terrorists on motorbikes who were attempting to regroup in Guzamala.

Naija News understands that this operation resulted in the capture of a substantial cache of weapons, which included seven AK-47 rifles, one Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) bomb and tube, two anti-aircraft guns, and 152 rounds of Shilka ammunition.

“In a follow-up ground operation, troops eliminated 15 terrorists and captured one alive as they attempted to flee after sustaining more injuries.

“The troops also destroyed three additional Vehicle Borne Improvised Explosive Devices (VBIEDs), bringing the total number of VBIEDs destroyed to 7,” Osoba disclosed in the statement.

The statement indicates that the operation resulted in the seizure of a substantial stockpile of armaments, which comprises seven AK-47 rifles, one Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) along with its tube, two anti-aircraft guns, and 152 rounds of ammunition for the Shilka system.

Furthermore, it highlighted that the current clearance operation represents a crucial advancement in the continuous efforts to reestablish peace and security in the area, thereby further diminishing the strength of terrorist factions.

The statement stressed that the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) remains unwavering in its dedication to eliminating terrorist threats and safeguarding the local community.
