TP Mazembe from the Democratic Republic of Congo have made history by becoming the champion of the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League in Morocco.

In a thrilling and tactical final held at El Jadida’s Stade Ben Ahmed El Abdi, TP Mazembe secured a narrow 1-0 victory against the former champions and hosts, AS FAR.

This match marked a significant achievement for TP Mazembe, as it was their first Champions League title, especially following their disappointing exit in the group stage in 2022.

The team displayed remarkable resilience and determination, effectively challenging the experienced AS FAR side, who are still in search of their elusive second title.

The decisive moment came in the early stages of the game when Marlene Kasaj scored from the penalty spot in the first ten minutes. Mazembe skillfully managed this lead, demonstrating strong defensive organization throughout the first half to maintain their clean sheet.

After halftime, TP Mazembe came out in a more attacking posture, looking to extend their advantage. While AS FAR worked hard to find an equalizer and regained some momentum, they were consistently met with the solid defence that Mazembe had established, which proved crucial in denying the hosts any scoring opportunities.

Ultimately, TP Mazembe’s disciplined performance allowed them to secure the coveted trophy, showcasing their growth and potential in women’s club football.

In addition to lifting the trophy, they will also receive $600,000 in prize money, while AS FAR, as the runners-up, will take home $400,000.
