The Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Yusif Abdullahi Ata, has warned the 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, against accusing Lagos State of trying to dominate other regions, especially Kano, due to the support it receives from the central government.

Naija News reported that Kwankwaso raised concerns over President Bola Tinubu’s government preference for Lagos State against other states of the federation.

He claimed that Lagos State is meddling in Kano’s internal matters, including the selection of its emir.

Kwankwaso stated this during a speech at the convocation ceremony of Skyline University in Kano on Sunday.

Part of his statement read, “Today, we can see very clearly there is a lot of effort from the Lagos axis to polarize this part of the country… Lagos wouldn’t allow us to choose our Emir.”

In response, Ata urged Kwankwaso to refrain from making statements that could deepen division in the country and lead him to contempt of court regarding the legal actions of the Kano Emirate Council.

According to the minister, the issue of the Kano Emirate is still pending in court and Kwankwaso’s comments might be perceived as contempt of court.

He added, “My remarks underscore the need for leaders to act responsibly to foster unity, rather than causing disharmony and creating uncertainty among the citizens.”
