United States President-elect Donald Trump has appointed Karoline Leavitt, a 27-year-old campaign spokesperson, as White House press secretary.

According to Trump, Leavitt is intelligent and resilient and has demonstrated her effectiveness as a communicator.

“I have complete confidence that she will thrive at the podium and effectively convey our message to the American public,” Trump said on Leavitt’s appointment.

Naija News reports that Leavitt will be among the youngest individuals to hold this significant position, representing the White House and addressing inquiries from the media.

During the campaign, she served as the national press secretary for Trump and welcomed her first child in July, just prior to the election, as she shared in a Fox News podcast released on Friday.

Previously, she worked as an assistant press secretary during Trump’s first term and made an unsuccessful bid for a House of Representatives seat in New Hampshire in 2022.

Additionally, she has held the position of communications director for Congresswoman Elise Stefanik, who Trump has nominated to serve as the UN ambassador.

“I didn’t grow up in a political family. I grew up like most Americans in a middle-class business family here in my home state of New Hampshire,” she told the Fox News podcast.

“I just dove into politics at my college, Saint Anselm College, in Manchester (New Hampshire).”
