Army General Reveals How Lakurawa Terrorists Entered Kebbi, Sokoto
The National Coordinator of the National Counter-Terrorism Centre, Major General Adamu Laka, has revealed how the newly identified terrorist sect, Lakurawa, entered and started their operations in the Northwestern region of Nigeria.
According to him, the terrorists were invited to the affected areas by the residents.
Naija News reports that there has been a disturbing surge of terrorism in Sokoto, Kebbi State and other regions in the North-West, as well as various forms of violent extremism following the emergence of the Lakurawa group.
Speaking in response to the recent surge of terrorism in the areas, Laka stated that the people invited Lakurawa to come and provide security for them against bandits.
“Now after providing the security for some time, they are imposing and collecting taxes from the people,” the Army Major General noted.
Laka, however, reassured the Nigerian populace that there is no cause for alarm regarding the terrorists, asserting that the Lakurawa membership is reportedly fewer than two hundred individuals.
The counter-terrorism coordinator emphasized that the military and other security agencies, under the guidance of the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, are effectively managing the situation, and the group is expected to be eradicated in the near future.
Furthermore, General Laka noted that since the rise of this undesirable group, the Minister of Defence, the Chief of Defence Staff, and other military leaders have convened multiple times to implement decisive actions based on well-informed strategies aimed at completely eliminating the members of this group and any similar threats in Sokoto State and across Nigeria.
“The people invited them to come and provide security against bandits. Now after providing the security for some time, they are imposing and collecting taxes from the people which cannot happen and which will not be allowed in a sovereign country,” Laka reiterated.
Meanwhile, the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, has issued a stern warning to the Lakurawa terrorist group, indicating that their time is limited if they continue their acts of terrorism.
During his address at the opening ceremony of the Comptroller General of Customs Conference in Abuja on Wednesday, Ribadu asserted that no one challenges President Bola Tinubu without facing consequences.
He emphasized that the terrorist group has chosen an inopportune moment to operate, as they will be expelled from Nigeria under Tinubu’s leadership.
