Mob Lynches Notorious Burglar In Rivers State
A man in Rivers State has reportedly been lynched by a mob.
According to police authorities, the man was lynched while trying to commit a crime and his remains were subsequently dumped on the road, where it was struck by a fast-moving vehicle, resulting in significant bodily damage.
The spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, revealed this in a statement on Saturday.
The corpse of the man was found lying along the Olu Obasanjo road in Port Harcourt.
Iringe-Koko said that when the police received the report, their operatives swung into action and discovered the corpse to be that of a notorious suspect operating in the area.
The statement read, “Preliminary findings suggest that the individual may have been lynched by angry mob at the scene while attempting to commit a crime, and his remains were subsequently dumped on the road, where it was struck by a fast-moving vehicle, resulting in significant bodily damage.
“On November 9, 2024, at about 1030hrs, the Rivers State Police Command received a report of an unidentified corpse lying near Ayama Junction/Ikokwu Spare Parts Market, along Olu-Obasanjo Road, Port Harcourt. Our operatives promptly responded to the scene.
“Upon investigation, it was discovered that the deceased was allegedly a notorious individual known for serial burglary and stealing in Ikokwu and its environs.
“Fortunately, all vital organs were found intact. The corpse has been evacuated, and a thorough investigation is currently underway to determine the circumstances surrounding this incident.”
She urged public members to cooperate with the police authorities by providing useful information that will help with the ongoing investigation into the incident.
The Police Command also reiterated its commitment to maintaining law and order in our community and ensuring justice is served.
