NLC Hails Gov Makinde For Approving ₦80,000 Minimum Wage

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has appreciated the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, for approving ₦80,000 as minimum wage for the state civil servants.

The Oyo State NLC chapter chairman, Comrade Kayode Martins, said the approval would be the first time the state workers would be earning more than federal workers, as the federal government approved ₦70,000 as minimum wage.

Kayode Martins stated this in an interview with Nigerian Tribune, on Thursday. He noted that the gesture of Governor Makinde would spur the civil servants to do more.

This is the first time Oyo State workers will be earning more than their federal workers counterparts,” Martins said.

The Oyo NLC chairman promised that workers in the state would reciprocate the gesture of the Governor by putting in enough productivity that would help to increase the internally generated revenue of the state.

NLC, however, appealed to members of the “government team in the negotiation to show same magnanimity by allowing for good consequential adjustment so that all workers across the board will partake of the Governor’s milk of human kindness“.

He added that workers and NLC would continue to support the Governor to ensure his programmes and policies for the state are carried out effectively.

He further called on the Governor to also ensure effective implementation of the minimum wage.
