Latest Petrol Price Hike News, Update On Fuel Scarcity For November 6th, 2024
As Nigerians continue to groan over the recent increase in fuel prices by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, Naija News brings you the latest update on petrol scarcity, fuel price increase and Govt/citizens’ reactions.
Petrol Price: Preposterous, Fallacious – Again, Oil Marketers Knock Dangote
The Depots and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPPMAN) has disputed a recent claim by Dangote Refinery, which suggested that oil importers offering petrol at prices lower than those from the refinery are bringing in substandard fuel and collaborating with international traders to flood Nigeria with low-quality products.
Naija News reports that Dangote Refinery made this assertion on Sunday, sparking a response from DAPPMAN.
In a statement issued on Monday, DAPPMAN’s Executive Secretary, Olufemi Adewole, emphasized that its members operate responsibly, rejecting any allegations of compromising fuel quality for profit.
“The marketers in the downstream sector are patriotic Nigerians committed to serving the nation and would not stoop to defrauding citizens. Our members are here to provide value to Nigerians, not to exploit them,” he said.
Adewole explained that international market prices for petroleum products fluctuate based on market forces, and DAPPMAN’s members calculate landing costs accordingly, with templates publicly available.
Fuel Scarcity, Food Price Increase, Hardship – Massive Protest Rocks Abuja
In Abuja on Monday, hundreds of Nigerians took to the streets in a large-scale protest to voice their frustrations over soaring fuel prices, persistent shortages, and worsening economic hardship.
Led by Abdullahi Bilal of the Two Million Man March Against Oil Scam Cabal, along with Barrister Napoleon Otache and Olayemi Isaac from the Citizens and Economic Freedom Rights Activists in Nigeria (CEFRAN), the protesters called for urgent reform in the country’s oil sector, condemning what they described as a failure of leadership to manage Nigeria’s oil resources responsibly.
The crowd highlighted the crippling effects of skyrocketing fuel prices and long-standing fuel queues, which they claim are fueling inflation and pushing more Nigerians into poverty.
They criticized the current fuel subsidy, arguing it has benefited only a privileged few while leaving millions of citizens grappling with high costs.
The protesters demanded full deregulation of the oil sector to promote transparency, competition, and fairer pricing.
Abbo Presents Proposal To Tinubu On How To Slash Fuel Price From ₦1000 To ₦480 Per Litre
Former senator, Ishaku Abbo has said that he has a solution to the fuel crisis in the nation.
Abbo disclosed that he has sent a proposal to President Bola Tinubu, that the price of petrol can come down to ₦480 in 2025 if the president approves the proposal.
He said that he has developed a comprehensive strategy to reduce petrol prices in Nigeria from the current over ₦1000 per litre to ₦480 in just five months to bring relief to Nigerian citizens devastated by the high cost of living.
The senator’s statement comes on the heels of the recent national grid collapse, which plunged the North into total darkness for almost three weeks.
Abbo who criticised successive Adamawa State governments for their inability to collaborate with the federal government to upgrade the Kiri dam in Shelleng LGA into an electricity generation dam that can generate at least 35MW of electricity for Adamawa State and its environs urged Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, to focus more on projects that have direct bearing on rural dwellers than building flyovers.
