Ruben Amorim Fears Man United Fans Will See Him As New Ferguson
The incoming manager of Manchester United, Ruben Amorim, has remarked that if his current team, Sporting CP, manages to secure a victory against Manchester City, he might be regarded as “the new Sir Alex Ferguson.”
Ruben Amorim made this comment ahead of a Champions League match against Manchester City which is scheduled for 9 p.m. on Tuesday, November 5.
Amorim has already been officially named as the successor to Erik ten Hag, but his tenure at Old Trafford will officially commence on November 11.
With his appointment, there is a palpable sense of anticipation surrounding his arrival, particularly given the struggling performance of the Red Devils, who have managed to win only four out of their 14 matches across all competitions so far this season.
Consequently, expectations from both fans and club officials are already quite high for Amorim as he steps into his new role.
In a recent media interaction, he downplayed the need to consider how his performance could impact fan expectations, saying: “I don’t think about that [increasing United fans’ expectations].
“My focus is solely on winning the match for Sporting. The conclusions people draw from the outcome are not significant for me, as they could lead to misunderstandings.”
He added, “If we win tomorrow, they might start believing that the new Alex Ferguson has arrived.”
