President Bola Tinubu’s government has formally endorsed the forthcoming Ogbomoso Cradle Carnival 2024, set to take place in Oyo State.
The Federal Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture, and the Creative Economy confirmed this in a statement issued on Saturday.
Naija News understands that this inaugural edition of the carnival, initiated by the Soun of Ogbomosoland, Oba Gbandi Olaoye, is planned for December 2024.
In a letter dated October 9, 2024, the ministry praised Oba Olaoye for his commitment to enhancing social and economic development within his community through cultural initiatives.
The letter, signed by Akudo-Nwosu, the Director of the Ministry’s Entertainment and Creative Economy Department, highlighted the significance of the event as a means of creating employment opportunities, fostering social engagement, and promoting socio-economic empowerment.
Additionally, the ministry recognized the carnival’s contribution to advancing Nigeria’s arts, culture, and creative economy.
The ministry said, “This initiative by the Soun of Ogbomoso aligns with our national vision of driving economic empowerment through culture.
“The Ogbomoso Cradle Carnival promises to be a vibrant celebration, drawing attention to the town’s rich heritage, as well as offering opportunities for local businesses and artisans.”
While appreciating the ministry’s endorsement, the planning committee Chairman, Williams Adeleye, said the carnival would showcase diverse cultural performances, craft exhibitions, and other activities that highlight the unique heritage of Ogbomoso and its people.
He added that the Oyo State Government had also included the carnival in its annual tourism calendar.
