Ademola Lookman Speaks On 2024 CAF Men’s Player Award
Super Eagles of Nigeria forward, Ademola Lookman, currently playing for Atalanta, has shared his thoughts on the 2024 CAF Men’s Player of the Year award.
In an interview with 54footballx, Ademola Lookman expressed how significant it would be for him to secure the award, not just for himself but also for his family, community, and nation. However, Lookman also emphasized that he does not feel any added pressure regarding this recognition.
The 27-year-old Nigerian international has had an impressive year, demonstrating remarkable skill and performance both at the club level with Atalanta and representing Nigeria on the international stage. Despite the award he is poised to receive, Lookman maintains a grounded perspective, focusing on his continuous growth as a player.
He said, “I don’t think I am feeling additional pressure. I think I have kept the same mindset; I have kept the same work ethic. I am just trying to do my best on the pitch.”
He went on to explain that his philosophy revolves around daily improvement, indicating that personal development is paramount to him.
“If I can win the award, it would be special most definitely for me, my family, my people, and my country, but for now, I need to concentrate on giving my best performance”, he said.
Meanwhile, Ademola Lookman has urged the Super Eagles to be consistent. He noted that the team has had a solid start in the qualifiers for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, boasting three wins and one draw from their first four matches.
This is contrary to the performance of the Super Eagles in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, where the team struggled and are still searching for their first victory after four games.
Reflecting on the team’s progress, Lookman stated, “We’ve shown good performances as a team in these AFCON qualifiers, and now we need to do better consistently.”
He added, “Obviously, the aim is to qualify for the AFCON and World Cup, so we are determined to achieve those objectives.”
