‘Manchester United Make Contact With Xavi Hernandez To Replace Ten Hag’
Former Barcelona head coach Xavi Hernandez is emerging as a potential candidate for the managerial position at Manchester United, particularly if the club’s leadership opts to part ways with current manager, Erik ten Hag.
Recent reports from Mail Sport indicate that intermediaries representing United have made contact with Xavi on two separate occasions over the past few months. These reports suggest that the Red Devils are considering their options should they decide to dismiss Ten Hag, who has been at the helm for two and a half years.
In line with that, a four-man delegation led by Manchester United’s chief executive, Omar Berrada, travelled to Spain last Thursday.
While it has been reported that these meetings are primarily related to supporting the Ineos Britannia sailing team’s efforts in the America’s Cup against New Zealand, the timing has stoked rumours regarding Xavi’s potential appointment.
Insiders from the club have indicated that high-level discussions have taken place in Barcelona, reinforcing the idea that Xavi could be on United’s radar.
Xavi himself has expressed a clear preference not to coach in Spain again, which could make a move to Manchester United an appealing opportunity for him should the club decide to make a managerial change.
Note that Xavi has coached just two professional clubs in his managerial career – Al Sadd of Qatar and FC Barcelona. While coaching in Qatar, he won virtually all the major titles there, including the League Cup.
In his two seasons at Barcelona, the Spanish tactician won one La Liga title and the Supercopa de EspaƱa.
