Ministers representing the Federal Government expressed optimism following a meeting with labour leaders on Wednesday, describing the interaction as fruitful.

The meeting took place at the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, in Abuja.

Leading the government delegation was the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris.

The Organised Labour team was headed by Joe Ajaero, President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), alongside Nuhu Toro, Secretary General of the Trade Union Congress (TUC).

Other notable attendees from the government included the Minister of State for Labour, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha; Minister of Finance, Wale Edun; and Minister of Budget and National Planning, Atiku Bagudu.

While the specific agenda of the meeting was not disclosed to the press, it comes amid growing discontent among labour groups regarding several pressing economic issues.

The Organised Labour has been particularly vocal about the recent hike in the pump price of petrol, rising electricity tariffs, soaring inflation, and the overall high cost of living that has been affecting many Nigerians.

Naija News understands that the Organised Labour on different times have called for reversal of petrol price.

Ajaero had accused the Federal Government of betraying Nigerians for increasing price of petrol after agreeing to seventy thousand Naira minimum wage.
