A sibling of the Secretary to the Kano State Government (SGG), Dr. Baffa Bichi, Hajiya Lami, has defected from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Lami, who is recognized as a women mobilizer in Kano State, announced her decision to dump the NNPP at the residence of the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, in Abuja.

She expressed her intention to bring her other sibling into the APC.

Dr. Baffa, who served as the Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TetFund) from 2016 to 2019 during President Muhammadu Buhari’s tenure, was appointed as the SSG by Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf on May 30, 2023.

Announcing her defection, Lami said: “Today, with my friends and political associates across Kano State, we have dumped the NNPP for the APC to join forces with like minds to address the challenges facing our State and our country. I will bring my brother, Baffa Bichi, to the APC soon.”

The women leader, accompanied by other members of the NNPP, visited the residence of the Deputy President of the Senate.

During this gathering, they collectively declared their departure from the NNPP, which is the ruling party in Kano State.

In response, Senator Barau extended a warm welcome to them as they joined the APC, emphasizing that the party has the capacity to embrace all Nigerians.

He expressed his commitment to ensuring that the party would meet their expectations and promised to uphold the positive initiatives that attract individuals to the APC.

We will treat all party members equally and fairly. The President is working hard to return our country to the path of progress and prosperity. Bear with him; our country will become stronger and we will all be happy for it,” he said.

Naija News recalls that in February 2023, the Deputy President of the Senate emerged victorious over Baffa, who was the NNPP candidate for the Kano North Senatorial District.

Senator Barau received 234,652 votes, while Baffa garnered 177,014 votes.
