Breaking: Enugu Rangers Emerge NPFL Champions

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has announced a new date for the rescheduled matchday 3 fixture between Enyimba and Akwa United.

NPFL Chief Operating Officer Davidson Owumi communicated the new date for the fixture in a letter addressed to the affected clubs.

Originally scheduled for Sunday, September 22, the game will now take place on Wednesday, October 2nd, at the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba.

The decision to reschedule the match was made due to Enyimba’s CAF Confederation Cup second preliminary round reverse leg tie against Etoile Filante on Saturday.

Note that Enyimba played to a goalless draw with the Burkina Faso side in Mali last Friday, setting the stage for the upcoming match in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state.

Meanwhile, the NPFL has issued a stern warning to clubs regarding match disruption. NPFL Chief Operating Officer Davidson Owumi emphasized that stiff penalties await clubs found guilty of disrupting matches in the Nigerian top flight.

He underscored the responsibility of home clubs to provide adequate security during their home games, ensuring the safety of visiting players, officials, and fans.

Any team found to have allowed disruptions, breaches, or security lapses will face sanctions as outlined in the NPFL rules.

This directive serves as a reminder to all clubs of the importance of maintaining order and security during league matches.

“The home clubs shoulder the burden of ensuring the security of the visiting players, officials, and their fans prior, during, and after their home matches,” Owumi said in his address.

“Any team that allows disruptions, breaches, or security lapses under any guise or circumstances will face appropriate sanctions as stipulated in the NPFL rules.”
