In a significant move towards reconciliation, the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) held a closed-door meeting with the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, on Tuesday.

This meeting comes amidst ongoing tensions between Wike and Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, particularly regarding control of the party’s structure in the state.

Wike, who has openly declared that he will not support Fubara politically again, has found himself at the center of controversy within the party.

Recently, party governors labeled Wike a “mole” within the PDP, a characterization he vehemently denied.

Despite the internal strife, acting National Chairman, IIiya Umar Damagum, has handed over the party’s structure in Rivers State to Wike, recognizing the congresses held by Wike’s loyalists.

This decision has raised eyebrows, as it contradicts the traditional political hierarchy in Nigeria, where state governors are typically seen as the political leaders of their parties.

With this development, Wike is positioned as the leader of the PDP in Rivers State, further complicating the political dynamics within the party as factions vie for influence.

The outcome of the BoT meeting remains to be seen, but it signals a potential shift in the power dynamics of the PDP as it seeks to unify its ranks amid mounting challenges.
