Napoli’s Coach Antonio Conte Throws Jab At Victor Osimhen
The newly appointed manager of Italian Serie A club, Antonio Conte, has thrown a jab at Victor Osimhen as his new side continues to do well without the Nigerian striker.
In the last three seasons, Victor Osimhen was the biggest name at Napoli and lived up to expectations when he scored 26 goals in 32 league games as he helped the side win the 2022-2023 Italian Serie A title for the first time in 33 years.
Unfortunately, things didn’t go so well for the 25-year-old striker last season due to injuries. To cap it up, the mockery from Napoli’s TikTok page soured his relationship with the Italian side and influenced his decision to exit the club this summer.
He finally got the exit by securing a loan move to Turkish side, Galatasaray after his potential deadline move to Chelsea or Saudi Pro League’s Al-Ahli failed to materialize. In his place, Antonio Conte requested for the signing of Romelu Lukaku whom he had worked with at Inter Milan.
So far this season, Napoli have recorded three wins in four games and they are currently topping the Serie A table. As for Lukaku, the Belgian striker has scored two goals in his first two games for the club.
In an interview quoted by Italian publication, Corriere dello Sport, Conte said the club aimed to get rid of egoistic players, a subtle jab reportedly directed at Victor Osimhen.
“The most important thing is we (the team), egoistic and selfish players must go,” the Italian tactician said.
“With the individual player, you don’t go anywhere; it’s the team that gets you to win or lose.
“It’s obvious that in a team, you have talented players, and you have to improve them, but always for the good of the team.
“You have to eliminate the players who work with ego because I don’t get along with them.”
