Cristiano Ronaldo Reacts After Becoming First Footballer To Score 900 Career Goals
Cristiano Ronaldo made history after scoring his 900th career goal in a thrilling UEFA Nations League match between Portugal and Croatia.
The Portuguese team, led by Roberto Martinez, secured a 2-1 victory over Croatia at the Estadio da Luz, with Ronaldo netting the decisive goal.
The scoresheet was opened by Manchester United’s Diogo Dalot in the 7th minute, and Cristiano Ronaldo doubled their lead in the 34th minute with a skillful finish from a cross by Nuno Mendes of Paris Saint Germain.
Although Croatia managed to alter the scoreline with an own goal by Dalot in the 41st minute, they were unable to secure an equalizer despite their efforts throughout the game.
Ronaldo’s historic moment came with an outpouring of emotion as he ran towards the corner flag after scoring and then bowed down in tears.
Following a disappointing outing at Euro 2024, where Cristiano Ronaldo failed to score in all five of Portugal’s games, Ronaldo expressed his emotions during a press conference after reaching the 900-goal milestone. He revealed that it was a uniquely emotional moment for him, highlighting the unseen dedication and hard work required to achieve such a remarkable feat.
He said: “It was emotional because it’s a milestone. It seems like any other milestone, but only I know, and the people around me, how hard it is to work every day, to be physically and psychologically fit, to score 900 goals. It’s a unique milestone in my career.”
With the milestone goal, Ronaldo also increased his international goal tally to 131 goals in 212 appearances, setting the stage for further achievements as Portugal prepares to face Scotland on September 8, 2024.
