NIS Officer’s Begging Act Doesn’t Reflect Our Passengers Experience- FAAN
Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FANN) said the begging act of Okpravero Ufuoma, a Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) officer, did not capture the overall experience of passengers who use Nigeria’s airports.
The Managing Director/Chief Executive of FAAN, Mrs Olubunmi Kuku, said the act of begging money from passengers, both local and foreign, by personnel at the country’s airports remained unacceptable.
In a statement, on Thursday, Kuku said FAAN is committed to ensuring that airport personnel maintain integrity and professionalism in the discharge of their duties.
Mrs Kuku said, “I have seen the disturbing video circulating of a Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) official begging a passenger for money at the airport. I want to ensure you know that this behaviour is completely unacceptable and does not reflect the passenger experience we hope to provide at our terminals.
“The officer in question has been immediately withdrawn from duty at the terminal and is currently facing disciplinary action with NIS. We are committed to maintaining the integrity and professionalism of all personnel working at our airports.”
She advised passengers to report cases of financial extortion or unprofessional acts from airport personnel, including begging for money. She emphasized that the comfort of passengers remains FAAN’s priority.
“I would like to ask all passengers to report any similar incidents or seek immediate support through the phone numbers QR codes provided below. Your safety and comfort are our top priorities, and we will take every necessary step to ensure a pleasant travel experience for everyone,” Kuku added.
