Boko Haram: Police Recover Projectile Grenades In Borno (Photos)
The Borno state command of the Nigeria Police Force reportedly discovered six projectile grenades believed to have been abandoned by Boko Haram terrorists at the Ajilari Cross area in Maiduguri.
The State Commissioner of Police, Yusuf Lawal, revealed this information on Saturday while providing a situation report to journalists in Maiduguri, the state capital.
He stated that the projectiles were found on Friday.
Lawal mentioned that the Explosive Ordnance Device personnel from Base 13 were deployed to the scene to assess the grenades and confirmed that they were made with incendiary chemicals.
He also stated that the affected area was thoroughly screened, and the projectiles were recovered intact, making the area safe.
“In a separate incident, 20 suspects were arrested for burning tyres and inciting disturbances in Maiduguri.
”They are currently under interrogation and investigation for transparent prosecution,” Lawal noted.
Lawal detailed that a separate violent episode occurred on the same day in Bassam Galomari Village, Gubio II Ward, within the Gubio Local Government Area.
He stated that Fulani herdsmen, accompanied by cattle, reportedly trespassed into a local’s farm, resulting in a clash.
Lawal said, ”The farm owner attempted to remove the herdsmen from his property, but they resisted, and one of the Fulani men attacked the farmer, cutting both his hands.
”The victim was rushed to Gubio Hospital, where he was referred to Maiduguri Hospital for further treatment.”
The Police Commissioner noted that security agencies have been mandated to respond to the situation to resolve the crisis.
He stressed that the forces have remained on high alert, working to maintain public safety and prevent further incidents.
