2024 Olympics: Coach Waldrum Insists Super Falcons Are Ready For Brazil
Super Falcons head coach Randy Waldrum has stressed that his players are ready to face Brazil in their opening 2024 Paris Olympics match at 6 p.m. today, July 25.
The American tactician believes that the Super Falcons who have lost twice and drew once in their last three meetings with Brazil have made significant progress since the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
At the World Cup, Nigeria advanced to the Round of 16 and put up strong performances against formidable opponents such as Canada, Australia, and England.
Since their defeat in the second round to England, the Super Falcons have only suffered one loss. They secured their spot in the Olympics by defeating their arch-rivals, South Africa.
Looking ahead, the team will be facing tough competition in the group stage in Paris, where they are set to play against Brazil, Spain, and Japan in Group C. Despite the challenging opponents, Waldrum expressed confidence in his players, stating that they are fully prepared for the upcoming matches.
Reflecting on their preparation for the 2024 Olympics, Waldrum said, “I’m pleased with the progress we’ve made. Our time in Spain was beneficial, and our experience in France has been exceptional. The players are in great shape and are eager to compete.
“We have definitely improved since the World Cup, and I’m optimistic that this progress will be evident when we face Brazil, a formidable opponent.”
