Deborah Abiodun Celebrates CAF Awards Nomination
Super Falcons midfielder Deborah Abiodun has expressed her excitement over her nomination for the 2023 CAF Young Player of the Year Award.
Deborah Abiodun who is currently 20-year-old is one of three Nigerians nominated for the award for players under the age of 21. The other two Nigerian ladies nominated for the award are Oluwatosin Demehin and Opeyemi Ajakaye.
Ten Falcons players will be honored in various categories at the 2023 CAF Awards, according to the announcement of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) on Tuesday.
The Falcons had an incredible 2023, making it to the Women’s World Cup round of 16 in Australia and New Zealand and almost making it to the quarterfinals before falling to England on penalties.
Deborah Abiodun played a prominent role during the Falcons’ World Cup round of 16 game against England, but her effort wasn’t enough to prevent Nigeria from crashing out.
Abiodun has been enjoying a fantastic campaign at her club, Pittsburg Panthers as the midfielder has scored five goals so far this season.
She could be one of the recipients of the CAF awards when the award gala takes place in Marrakech, Morocco on December 11, 2023.
While reacting to the nomination on X, Abiodun appreciated her coaches, teammates, friends, and family for the rare feat of being nominated for the CAF awards.
She wrote: “Thrilled to be nominated for CAF Young Player of the Year!
“This journey wouldn’t be the same without the incredible support from coaches, teammates, friends, family, and fans. Your belief in me keeps me pushing boundaries. Let’s continue this adventure together!”
