APC Appoints Uzodinma As Edo Gov'ship Primary Election Committee Chairman

The Imo State chapter of the Labour Party has been slammed by the state government for accusing the governor, Hope Uzodimma, of plots to hijack the party in the state.

According to the Imo government, the governor is not a member of the Labour Party, so what reason would he have to hijack the party in the state.

Naija News gathered that the Imo State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Declan Emelumba, on Tuesday reacted to the accusation that Uzodimma was behind the crisis currently rocking the Labour Party in the state.

His reaction follows an allegation by the Labour Party National Secretary, Umar Farouk, that Uzodimma was trying to hijack the party following the invasion of its premises in Owerri by security agencies.

Farouk had claimed that the state government was behind its current crisis.

However, the state government reacted by saying it has washed its hands from the self-inflicted woes rocking the Labour Party (LP) in the state.

Emelumba described the claims as “mischievous and satanic”, saying the invasion was a result of infighting among various factions of the party in the state.

He submitted that the governor has no need to be interested in the internal crisis of the Labour Party as he is busy attending to the affairs of the state.

He explained that a faction of the Labour Party secured a court order against the institution of a caretaker committee by another faction, necessitating the pasting of the order at the state secretariat of the Labour Party.

Therefore, the presence of security agencies at the premises was to enforce the pasting of the court order at the Labour Party Secretariat as directed by the court.

Emelumba also alleged that the crisis in Labour Party in the state started a long time, resulting in the state chapter arranging two different venues when the presidential candidate, Peter Obi, visited Imo for campaigns.

“It is common knowledge that the Labour Party in IMO STATE has been engulfed in a leadership crisis even before the election. So, it is mischievous and even satanic for the national secretary to accuse the governor of trying to hijack the party.

“Uzodimma is not a member of LP. He is not among those who went to court. He is not threatened by the activities of the party, so why drag his name into their crisis?” Emelumba said.

He, therefore, accused the national secretary of the Labour Party of “misinforming” Nigerians as to the real reasons the police visited their secretariat, noting that “Everybody in Imo State knows that the police were there to enforce a court order and save some rascals from themselves. Imo State Government has absolutely nothing to do with that.”
