APC Begins Probe Of Aregbesola, Amosun, Onochie, Others

The leadership of All Progressive Congress (APC) has commenced an investigation of the Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, former Governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, and other party members over alleged anti-party activities.

Aregbesola

Recall that Aregbesola had publicly moved against the second-term ambition of Governor Oyetola, and endorsed the former Secretary to the State Government, Moshood Adeoti. However, Adeoti later lost to Oyetola at the APC governorship primary election held on February 19, 2022.

In the outburst ahead of the party’s governorship primary election, Aregbesola said enough was enough for the politics of godfatherism and enthronement by treacherous leaders who equated themselves to the status of a god.

A source close to the Osun State Secretariat of APC told News Direct that the probe will assist the leaders to determine possible punishment for those being investigated.

The source said the national leadership directed the state executive to collate names, addresses, and the ward of members alleged of anti-party activities during the July 16 Osun State gubernatorial election and the just conducted 2023 election.

He added that the National Working Committee (NWC) has also given the same directive to all state executives across the country.

Amosun

Also, Amosun openly supported the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Biyi Otegbeye against the incumbent governor and the candidate of APC, Prince Dapo Abiodun, during the Ogun election.

The former Ogun governor called on his supporters and the people of the state to vote for the ADC candidate in the March 9 governorship election.

However, Otegbeye, a former APC member, came third in the election and lost to Abiodun.

Onochie

Also, the Chairman of the Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Lauretta Onochie, was suspended by the leadership of the All Progressives Congress in her Onicha-Olona Ward 4 of Delta.

A resolution of the Ward leadership signed by Ogbolu Peter Nduka and Justina Amagor Akaeze Chairman and Secretary along with 25 other members of the ward committee in Aniocha North Local Government Area, accused the Chairman of the NDDC Board for alleged anti-party activities.

The letter dated March 20, 2023, and addressed to the Chairman of the APC Delta State chapter, specifically accused Lauretta Onochie of working for the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the Governorship election, Sheriff Oborevwori.

The Ward Executive noted that the NDDC Chairman’s action contravened the APC’s constitution, which frowns at anti-party activities.

She was also accused of openly campaigning for the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, in the run-up to the Presidential and National Assembly, as well as the Governorship and State Houses of Assembly Election.

The ward executive also alleged that Onochie and all her allies worked for the PDP in the state, which resulted in the party’s loss in her polling unit in the Presidential, Senatorial, House of Representatives, Governorship, and State Assembly Elections.

They also claimed that Onochie has failed to fulfill her financial obligations to the party and has never attended any Ward and LGA meetings or other party engagements.
